Knight specialises in the area of New Zealand babylamb garments.
These unique, ultra lightweight garments are fraction of the weight of their traditional sheepskin counterparts, yet they offer
the same degree of warmth.
Only the prime area of the skin is used, and each garment incorporates between 25 and 30 skins.
New Zealand has a sheep population of around 55 million, and every year at spring lambing time 30 million lambs are born.
At as normal with all animals, Mother Nature takes her toll and around 10% die naturally at birth. Of these, only 1.2 to 1.5 millions skins are selected and tanned for use in garments.
The 100% natural baby virgin wool forms an ideal insulation against the cold on the garments, and the reverse side of the skin is
buffed to form a soft, silk suede or lightweight nappa.
Because these skins come from such young animals, the natural skin fibres are tightly interlocked to form a very fine and light
weight material that is also strong and durable.
Since 1985 Knight has been owned by its senior management, who between them have over 75 years in the leather industry.
